9. Expected duration of the work : (Page 13)

It is expected that the work will be completed in two years. First six months the questionnaire will be developed and the review of the literature will be done. The second six months collection of secondary data from various sectors will be done. In the third half year interview with the training and development head will be taken and further the data will be collected. The last part will be covering analysis and discussion with experts and also the data analysis and development of research report will be done.

4. Main Objective of the research work: The main objective of the research work is to study the training and development practices in various sectors like Retail/FMCG, IT/Software Development Industry, Service /Hospitality and Armed Forces.

5. The main objective of the study are as follows:-

a) Process followed by the company for identifying business, departmental and individual training needs.

b) Understanding how competency frameworks and performance indicators help to establish clear learning objectives

c) Designing relevant programs, choosing learning methods,
and delivering effective training sessions.

d) Checking progress by recording, monitoring and evaluating training
effectiveness

6. Importance of proposed research work:

a) This study will highlights the aspects related to training and development practices prevailing in various sectors. It will be a detailed survey, the material from the survey will be useful for both academicians, practitioners. The study will highlight how training and development has ivolved over a period of time in all sectors whether its Retail/FMCG, IT/Software Development Industry, Service/Hospitality or Armed Forces.

b) The main contribution of this study is as follows:

(i) It will help us to develop a model for training and development for all sectors.

(ii) Helps in optimizing the utilization of human resource that further helps the employee to achieve the organizational goals as well as their individual goals.

(iii) Training and Development as an aid in overall organizational development i.e. Organization gets more effective decision making and problem solving. It helps in understanding and carrying out organizational policies.

(iv) Contribution of Training and Development in increasing the productivity of the employees that helps the organization further to achieve its long-term goal.

8. Methodology:

Overview

It deals with the methodology adopted, data collection, procedures used, its types, sources and tools used. It explains how different types of the data used, helps in developing an insight into the existing system in an organization. It will also show how the tools are useful in predicting the need for training and the effectiveness of training of the sample organization.

The aim is to ascertain facts and analyze them in an objective manner to work out a neat design, systematically analyze the data and present the data in the light of whatever parallel findings are available.

Subscribing to these requirements of scientific study the present research is directed to explore the impact of Training and Development practices and organizational outcomes and also the variables affecting the training

And development process.

Samples

The size of the sample plays a significant role in behavioral science research and carrying out the statistical analysis of the data and in generlizability of results. There is no clear rule regarding the appropriate size of sample for a particular analysis. It had been proposed that the samples stable results are directly proportional to the number of variables under study.

Depending on the availability of data this study will be conducted on four major upcoming sectors like Retail/FMCG, IT/Software Development Industry, Service/Hospitality and Armed Forces.

Types of data required

Both the primary and secondary data was required for the study, primary data was required to understand the exact training and development models and practices prevailing in the Indian industries. Moreover no research support material was available so the primary data had to be generated for conducting the research and so no hypothesis could be proposed. Secondary data was used as a background support for understanding the Indian training and development practices and models.

Sources of Data

(a) Various sources have been exploited to collect both primary as well as the secondary data.

(b) Sources of collecting primary data are as follows:-

(i) Human Resource managers.

(ii) Trainers

(iii) Employees of all departments especially related to operations.

(iv) Annual Administrative Reports.

(v) Annual Financial Reports.

(vi) Reports published by other authorities.

(vii) Concerned websites of training and development.

(viii) Daily Newspaper.

(ix) National and international published journals and magazines.

(x) Dissertations and Ph. D. thesis.

Tools for Data Collection

The main tool used for the primary data collection will be questionnaire on Training and Development practices.

9. Chapter wise details of proposed Research

Chapter – I Introduction

The chapter deals with the concept of training and development with respect to the Indian scenario. It also puts forward the different theories, practices and models of training and development. The different external and internal factors that influences and dominates the training and development process is also reflected. The final section deals with the introductory concept of training and development practices.

Chapter – II Literature Review

The chapter deals with the reviews of past development in training and development. It discusses the training and development concept and the research evidences so far. This review brings about the trends that have emerged over a period of time. It further states that how the research in training and development improves the understanding of the dynamics of employees and employers relationship and efficiency. The chapter also explains the linking of training and development with employees behavior and efficiency with organizational development and how the same concept is applied in the research.

Chapter – III Training and Development Model

In this chapter we will study about the various training and development model and its applicability within the organization. It explains the various variables, which are responsible for the prevailing training and development practices and the outcome. Training and development model is an intervening variable between the input and output factors and it influenced and gets influenced by these factors.

Chapter – IV Methodology

This chapter will deal with the methodology adopted for data collection ,procedures used, its types, sources and tools used. It explains about how different types of the data used, helps in developing an insight into the existing system of training and development process in an organization.

The limp phase that the IT sector and the software industry is going through in the present times can be gauged from the fact that the pay of the employees in these two fields all over the world no longer remain lucrative. In many countries, software companies are also chucking out employees, especially those employees who have been “sitting on the bench”. This was an unheard of concept a few years back.
